Wherever you are in the world, there are plenty of "right choices" you can make when it comes to eating. You don't have to finish your plate, and you can ask food to be prepared the way you like. There are plenty of markets and grocery stores you can visit and stock up on items that you normally would in your daily life. Yes, different regions and cultures of the world have different flavors to try and indulge in, but eating an entire pan of Paella vs the correct portion is a big difference in your body. Guess what?.. it will taste exactly the same :). You like it? have another portion tomorrow. Just a tip and suggestion to keep you fit no matter where you are for whatever reason.
Your body doesn't know, care and won't respond any different because you choose to go with larger portions of anything you want on the menu because your in Hawaii vs Home. Teaching your mind that these actions are ok, really isn't. You don't gain any more or less based on where in the world that you are. So before you decide to destroy the entire plate of Enchiladas, 4 margaritas, 3 pieces of chocolate cake and chips and salsa all day because your at a resort, you should really ask yourself, is it really worth it? Is this the lifestyle that I'm choosing for myself and would I be doing this if I was at home? If the answer is 'NO" then go back to what works for you. A vacation is about a time to relax, not about a time to eat. Trust me, I love the job security of my clients who love to indulge in food while on vacation, but Id rather have their minds trained to a lifestyle. That lifestyle is to be fit, healthy and in charge of their body and mind.
